If you are like me and love starting your garden from seed, always looking to try new innovate gardening techniques, and try to extend your growing season as long as it can possibly go, but then also live a busy life, an effective tool to help organize your garden season is incredibly valuable. Seedtime allows you to visualize and plan when to do anything in your garden in your specific local area! You can compare and adjust planting schedules in a timeline view with weekly automated checklists you can even adjust based on your planned vacations and real time weather changes! The app tells you (with demonstrations) what to do, when to do it, and how to do it if ever stuck. It is your go-to app for organization, layout, education, reminders, tailored to your specific garden journey. It helps to mitigate the stress from the process of gardening and allows you to focus on the joy of gardening.
So what is Seedtime all about?
There are four main components-- the calendar tool, layout tool, task list, and journal tool. Lets take a quick look into each of their functions!
The Calendar Tool
Here you can add each crop and the calendar automatically maps out specific dates for seeding, bed preparation, transplanting, and harvesting, dependent on your zone. It really helps you to visualize and plan your growing schedule - very intuitive!
The Layout Tool
Only available with basic and unlimited plans with Seedtime, the layout feature allows you to map out your garden, digitally. You can link crops you have listed in your calendar to place where you plan to plant outside for more of a realistic visual. The calendar tool helps you to understand when to plant and the layout tool helps you to visualize where you plant your crops. You can even add permanent structures such as your house, fences, trees, sheds to provide context and scale for your garden design. It allows you to schedule succession planting, understand best companion planting, and has precision tools that can zoom down to one inch for detail and alignment.
The Task List
The task list automatically compiles daily and weekly gardening jobs such as seeding, transplanting, and harvesting, directly from your calendar plan. This gives you the satisfaction of checking off the to-do's and keeping you on track. It is easy to postpone dates and tracks actual completion dates to adjust schedules accordingly. You can switch between daily or weekly views and can even filter and add custom tasks beyond planting! Clicking a task often provides instructions, videos, and specific crop recommendations - always keeping you up to speed.
The Journal Tool
The journal tool serves as a centralized hub for recording your own personalized observations. Here you can track your progress and even maintain a visual history of your garden with uploaded photos. You can associate your journal entries with specific plantings or crops in your calendar, allowing you to track a variety's performance in detail. You can tag to organize your notes and filter entries by date, tag, or specific crop to find information quickly.
As seed starting is creeping around the corner, I have been vigorously looking for my past year's journals and notes to find specific tips and tricks I have made over the years with my gardening journey. It will be so much easier to have everything organized and easy to find as well as reference for years to come. With the upgraded subscriptions with Seedtime, you can get 20% off of seed purchases from High Mowing Organic Seeds and The Leaf Market, available in Seedtime's store.
